The Caltech men’s soccer team has announced its schedule for the 2017 Fall season, which will include eight home games.

Schedule

The Beavers open the season with a two-game road trip to Tacoma, Wash. where they will take on a pair of Northwest Conference teams in Pacific Lutheran University (Sept. 4) and George Fox University (Sept. 6). This will be Caltech’s first game against the Lutes, which narrowly posted a winning record last season at 10-8-2 overall (7-6-1 NWC), since 2002, while the George Fox matchup will be the first on record. The Beavers’ most recent game against a NWC foe came in last season’s opener, which ended in a 4-3 overtime defeat to Whitman College.

Even upon return to Los Angeles, Caltech will contest three more away games to open SCIAC play before the home opener. The Beavers will face Occidental College on Sept. 9, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Sept. 13 and Cal Lutheran University on Sept. 16. All three finished within one game of .500 while placing fifth-seventh in the conference last season.

Caltech finally hosts its first home game of the season on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. against the University of La Verne. The Leopards finished second in the SCIAC for 2016, but were the only foe against whom Caltech scored in both games last season. The Beavers also host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges two days later on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 11 a.m.

With this year’s changes to the SCIAC schedule that reduce conference play from 16 games to 14, the Beavers will face eighth-place Whittier College only once, which will come on Sept. 27 at the Poets’ venue. They will cap their penultimate road trip at Chapman University, against whom Caltech earned its last point in SCIAC play in 2014, on Sept. 30.

The Beavers conclude the first round of SCIAC play with their only game against defending champions and NCAA Championship quarterfinalists the University of Redlands in Pasadena on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. Caltech then hosts Chapman on Saturday, Oct. 7 (11 a.m.) just a week after the teams’ first meeting and Cal Lutheran University on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.

Caltech’s final road trip consists of stops at La Verne (Oct. 14) and CMS (Oct. 18) preceding a three-game season-ending home stand. The Beavers will have the 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 kickoff against Pomona-Pitzer circled after shutting out the Sagehens for 68 minutes and having a goal of their own called back in an eventual 1-0 defeat in last year’s matchup. The season concludes with games against Oxy on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. and National Christian College Athletic Association member Shepherd University on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. The SCIAC Postseason Tournament will be held on Thursday and Saturday, Nov. 2 and 4.
