The late-great Glenn Frey of the Eagles became famous in the 1980′s with a song called “the heat is on” from the Beverly Hills Cop movie.

It was just a song.

Immaculate Heart, though, actually thrived when the heat was on Saturday at Griffith Park in Los Angeles.

The Pandas beat out 14 other schools and 119 other runners to take the prize with heats that reached the mid-to-upper 90′s.

The JV was only one point back of first place in their meet as well, among 12 teams and 144 runners.

“Congratulations to all runners and especially Coach Fedi for her dedication and persistence,” athletic director Maureen Rodriguez said. “Even with the excessive heat on Saturday, our girls ran with heart.”

Immaculate Heart will next head to Palo Alto and compete in the prestigious Stanford Meet this coming weekend.
