With Muir enjoying its bye week after starting the season 2-0, and a week after Pasadena-area schools went 5-2 in ‘week one,’ just St. Francis and Maranatha were able to muster wins in week two.<\/p>\n

Both the Golden Knights and Minutemen earned blowout victories, while Poly tied Brentwood and Pasadena and Marshall were dominated again.<\/p>\n

La Salle was tied in Van Nuys with Birmingham at the half (14-14) despite falling behind 14-0 early.<\/p>\n

The Lancers, though, were outscored 20-7 in the second half, and fell, 34-21.<\/p>\n

St. Francis 42, Pasadena 0:<\/strong><\/p>\n

It might sound odd to describe 17 year old athletes as “business like,” but that’s exactly how the Golden Knights team comes off.<\/p>\n

St. Francis (2-0) went in and dominated from the start.<\/p>\n

They did their jobs and left Pasadena 2-0 happy, healthy and undefeated.<\/p>\n

Darius Perrantes threw two TD passes in just two quarters of action.<\/p>\n

Most impressive about his brief time on the field was how many big-yard passes he completed.<\/p>\n

Perrantes hit Blake Howard for a 71-yard TD, as well as a 51-yard completion to Andrew Monarrez.<\/p>\n

Elijah Washington, arguably the area’s best running back, got his first two TD’s of his senior year, and along with most of the starters, Washington took most of the second half off.<\/p>\n

Greg Dulcich continues to be the area’s most prolific receiver and despite not a lot of time on the field Friday, the 6-foot-4 senior had 83 yards receiving on just two catches.<\/p>\n

After two blowouts, the Golden Knights will face their first real test when they host La Serna on Friday at 7.<\/p>\n

Maranatha 42, Azusa 7:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maranatha quarterback Kwon Peterson has an area-best 12 TD passes.<\/p>\n

He’s played in one more game than Darius Perrantes, who has 8 TD’s.<\/p>\n

Peterson is the guy that makes Maranatha go, and his ability to get outside of the pocket and make throws is what separates him from many.<\/p>\n

The senior threw 5 TD passes and just under 300 yards passing.<\/p>\n

Chandler Auguste, who was filling in for a suspended Awan Parker, not only filled Parker’s role, he, according to coach Steve Bogan, earned himself more snaps as the season goes on.<\/p>\n

Zack McClendon was versatile with north of 60 yards rushing and receiving, and he scored once.<\/p>\n

Jacob Moreno, our Pasadena Sports Now Athlete of the Week, continues to impress and inspire.<\/p>\n

Moreno caught another TD pass, ran the ball, knocked down passes on defense and made his presence felt on special teams as well.<\/p>\n

Throughout the game, and I may be wrong, but I only saw Moreno leave the field once after the game had gotten out of hand.<\/p>\n

Maranatha will host Campbell Hall Friday in their Homecoming game at 7.<\/p>\n

Poly 14, Brentwood 14:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Poly will look at Friday’s tie at Brentwood as both a good and bad thing.<\/p>\n

The good part was leaving Brentwood without a loss, despite the heat and an early 3 p.m. kickoff, and they held the Eagles scoreless in three overtime periods.<\/p>\n

The bad part was twofold.<\/p>\n

First, the Panthers’ offense could not score in any of the three overtimes, and secondly, the frustration of knowing they had a chip-shot field goal attempt that would have won the game.<\/p>\n

The line of scrimmage on that potential game-winning field goal was the 5-yard line and was a 22-yard attempt.<\/p>\n

Jackson Hayes scored one of the two Poly TD’s and he intercepted three passes.<\/p>\n

Franco Alonso scored the other TD and led on defense with 10 tackles.<\/p>\n

Alonso had 90 receiving yards on two catches.<\/p>\n

Cameron McFarlane had nine tackles on defense and 73 yards rushing, including one where the senior bulldozes a Brentwood linebacker.<\/p>\n

Poly will host Mary Star of the Sea on Saturday at 2.<\/p>\n
