You know expectations are high when the players and coaches are ‘disappointed’ with a 24-7 Angelus League opening victory over visiting St. Paul.<\/p>\n

The Golden Knights improved to 6-0 overall and 1-0 in league play with the win.<\/p>\n

Nico Boschetti got St. Francis out to a 3-0 lead when he converted a 37-yard field goal.<\/p>\n

Senior captain Elijah Washington then scored on runs of 42, and 9 yards, respectively, to give the Golden Knights a 17-0 lead in the third quarter.<\/p>\n

Darius Perrantes snuck in from 1 yard out to put the game out of reach and a 24-0, fourth-quarter lead.<\/p>\n

Perrantes made his return after taking last week off and his numbers weren’t what you might expect from the star junior.<\/p>\n

But then again, he set the bar pretty high with 6 TD passes in the season opener.<\/p>\n

He completed 9 of 21 passes for 118 yards and he was picked once.<\/p>\n

Kevin Armstead might be the area’s most unsung new star.<\/p>\n

The sophomore finished with 97 more yards on the ground for St. Francis.<\/p>\n

Washington scored TD’s 8 and 9 of his senior year and finished with 90 yards on 10 carries, and then did his job at linebacker as well.<\/p>\n

As we said in the preview, the Swordsmen (2-4, 0-1) passing game was nearly extinct and that held up Friday.<\/p>\n

St. Paul had just 18 yards through the air against the Golden Knights defense.<\/p>\n

Isaac Cordova picked off a St. Paul pass for the Golden Knights.<\/p>\n

St. Francis will travel to La Salle next Friday to take on a Lancers team that hammered Salesian, 51-7, in a game that saw the entire second half played with a running clock.<\/p>\n

St. Francis running back-linebacker Elijah Washington:<\/strong> “It was a weird game with lots of ups and downs, but we pulled through and got our first league win. I’ve got to give credit to my offensive line and my receivers for blocking like they did tonight. The holes were huge and we were able to pound the ball. I just played how I know how and did my job on both sides of the ball. Our defense held them to only 7 points and that score was late in the fourth quarter, so credit goes to our defense as well.”<\/p>\n
