If you walk into the La Salle High School gym during a girls volleyball match, there is a sense of high expectations.<\/p>\n

The Lancers are as well coached as anyone with Tiare Tuitama at the helm.<\/p>\n

And despite a match with the defending CIF champions and Del Rey League rivals from St. Joseph starting over an hour and a half late, the La Salle student section continues to set the pace for being the most impactful crowd in the area.<\/p>\n

La Salle won its seventh consecutive match as it defeated the visiting Jesters, 25-20, 25-18 and 25-21.<\/p>\n

The victory pushes the Lancers Del Rey League cushion to 2 1\/2 games over both St. Joseph and Bishop Montgomery.<\/p>\n

La Salle (18-4, 5-0) has not dropped a game in league matches and are arguably the area’s best program in 2017.<\/p>\n

Tori Ashkinos had a big night with 9 kills and 6 digs.<\/p>\n

Sofia Sanchez also chipped in with 8 kills and 3 blocks.<\/p>\n

Sophia Anderson had 5 kills and 2 aces.<\/p>\n

And last but certainly not least, sophomore Vanessa Ramirez added 14 digs and 2 aces.<\/p>\n

Ramirez won five consecutive points on her serve in the third game when St. Joseph was battling to get back in the match.<\/p>\n

La Salle will host St. Paul next Tuesday at 6.<\/p>\n

La Salle coach Tiare Tuitama:<\/strong> “We were really looking forward to playing St. Joe’s and knew they’d give us a run for our money. As far as our mind set, we got to play their awesome transfers at home. I have four setters and one thing we talk about in time outs is to move the ball around. Vanessa (Ramirez) is an outstanding athlete, she has a high volleyball IQ and she keeps the ball alive.”<\/p>\n

La Salle sophomore Vanessa Ramirez:<\/strong> “We did really well on energy, our defense and our serving. Serving well is good motivation and it brings our team together and to win points as a team.”<\/p>\n

La Salle Sofia Sanchez:<\/strong> “(My role is) positivity. Always staying strong and being a reminder to move to the next play. Our practices are why we’re doing so well, and our focus. We know we have to play every point like it’s the last point.”<\/p>\n
