With just a couple weeks before the 2018 girls volleyball regular season comes to an end, just three area programs are among the ranked teams in the latest CIF-SS poll.<\/p>\n

In their weekly Monday poll, Poly is No. 9 in the CIF-SS Division 4 rankings and Mayfield is one spot behind them at 10.<\/p>\n

Flintridge Prep checked in at No. 7 in Division 6.<\/p>\n

Poly took hold of the Prep League’s highest spot for the first time all season recently after defeating then first-place Mayfield on September 20, and with some help from Chadwick five nights later.<\/p>\n

The Dolphins rallied from two games down at Mayfield and stunned the Cubs in five..<\/p>\n

Poly still has three Prep League matches to go.<\/p>\n

The Panthers will travel to Palos Verdes Peninsula on Thursday to take on third-place and surging Chadwick, and the next night, they go to their rival’s gym to battle Flintridge Prep.<\/p>\n

Next Monday, Poly will host Providence in the final regular season match of 2018, and with the hopes of getting the Prep League’s No. 1 seed.<\/p>\n

In all reality, the Panthers, barring a complete collapse, will defeat Prep and Providence, so that leaves Thursday’s match at Chadwick as the only thing standing between the Panthers and the Prep League championship.<\/p>\n

Mayfield, as mentioned, had a rough five days a couple weeks back, but the Cubs have a chance to regroup and enter the playoffs with some momentum.<\/p>\n

They have four matches remaining and three are of the Prep League variety.<\/p>\n

Today (Tuesday) they host Flintridge Prep and then Wednesday, Mayfield will face off with FSHA on the road in a nonleague contest.<\/p>\n

The Cubs finish out this week with a home match against last-place Rio Hondo Prep on Thursday.<\/p>\n

And lastly, Mayfield will travel to Westridge next Tuesday in their regular season and Prep League finale with the Tigers.<\/p>\n

Prep fell to Mayfield in four games Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The Rebels will host Rio Hondo Prep Wednesday at 3:15, and then welcome their rivals and first-place Poly on Friday at 5:30.<\/p>\n

Prep’s last regular season match of the year will take place next Tuesday when they host third-place Chadwick.<\/p>\n

Poly coach Katrina Damasco:<\/strong> “We just have to take care of business. We can’t sleep on our opponents. We’ve beaten them all before in the first round, but that doesn’t give us any wiggle room. We need to win all three matches, and take it one match at a time. Our serve-receive has improved over the season, but consistency in general has been important to us and something we keep working towards.”<\/p>\n
