The same Flintridge Prep girls tennis team that finished third in the Prep League is now in the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 playoffs.<\/p>\n
La Serna and Prep each won 9 matches to finish in a tie.<\/p>\n
But Prep moves on to Thacher of Ojai, thanks to a 79-67 advantage in games.<\/p>\n
After 18 matches (9 singles and 9 doubles), and 146 games, the difference between winning and losing was 12 games.<\/p>\n
The Rebels will have to travel to Ojai on Wednesday, with a spot in the finals at stake.<\/p>\n
Prep’s singles went 7-2, with Libby Penn and Crystal Juan winning all six of their matches.<\/p>\n
Penn won by scores of 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 and Juan dominated La Serna, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0.<\/p>\n
Suzie Kim won just one of her three matches, but that one win sent the match into a tiebreaker.<\/p>\n
Kim defeated Leah Gonzales, 6-3.<\/p>\n
Maya Khurana and partner, Emilie Hu, and Jaysari Krishnakumae and Tiana Lopez each won one of their three matches.<\/p>\n
But in a 9-9 tie, each victory was enormous.<\/p>\n
“We didn’t know what to expect entering CIF,” Flintridge Prep coach Morissa Yang said. “When we played well in the first round, we got pretty confident. We knew from the get go it might come down to points (in the La Serna match). They were 18-0. Coming in, we were confident, but I don’t think we expected to get to the semi’s. I don’t feel like we’re the underdogs (anymore).”<\/p>\n
