The Caltech goalkeepers had their athleticism on full display when the men’s soccer team hosted nationally-ranked No. 19 University of Redlands on Wednesday.

Freshman Joe Como (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Acad.) got the start for Caltech and while the youngster had his hands full with the SCIAC’s best team and one of the top offenses in the nation, he went 22 minutes in the middle of the first half without allowing a goal. He also made five of his eight saves in the first half. Sophomore keeper Alex Lettenberger (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbard West) relieved Como with just over 10 minutes to go and did not allow a single goal in the field of play. The Bulldogs’ only goal in that stretch came on a penalty kick, meanwhile Lettenberger made two athletic saves to showcase the depth the Beavers have at the position. Another sophomore, Kevin Yu accounted for the majority of Caltech’s offense with two shots and the Beavers’ only shot on goal.

Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will return to North Field this weekend when they host Chapman University on Saturday, Oct. 7.
