For the second year in a row, the President’s Roundball Classic belonged to the College of the Sequoias women’s basketball team as the Giants doubled the score on short-handed host Pasadena City College, 72-36, to win the tourney title Saturday afternoon at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

The Lancers (3-2) played without top freshman Celine Bolton-Ford, injured in Friday’s semifinals win over LA Southwest, and were down to only six eligible players. Sophomore center Alisa Shinn scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds while the rest of the tiny PCC unit totaled just 22 points.

For COS (4-1), tourney MVP/sophomore guard Zharia McCollum scored a team-high 12 points and added five rebounds and six steals. PCC trailed 19-13 after one quarter but the Giants buried the Lancers in the middle quarters, outscoring them, 38-11, to make for a less-than-suspenseful fourth quarter.

For PCC, Shinn and frosh guard Jade Line made the All-PRC Tourney team with Sequoias’ McCollum and guard Julianna Gutierrez. Irvine Valley captured third place with an 88-39 rout over LA Southwest as IVC’s sophomore forward Kasey Smith and Cougars’ sophomore guard Ronnesha Harvey were selected all-tournament. Citrus and all-tourney frosh forward Kyannie Brown defeated Pierce, 78-60 for the consolation title.

On November 17-19, PCC participates in the LA Southwest Tournament.
