From STAFF REPORTS

Look up the word perseverance and this year’s La Salle girls volleyball program should be mentioned.

The Lancers have had their ups and downs, but they always seem to find a way to come together at game time.

After getting handled by Sierra Canyon in the CIF-SS Division 3 finals last Saturday, the Lancers could have easily recoiled and moved on.

Not this team.

One week after falling just short, the Lancers swept Del Norte in the CIF Division 2 State Playoffs.

It’s their second victory in the State playoffs, and both have been via sweep.

La Salle defeated Del Norte by scores of 25-12, 25-21 and 25-18 Saturday night in the second round.

Claire Forrest led the way with 15 kills.

Tori Ashkinos added 19 assists, 7 kills and 3 blocks.

Sofia Sanchez had 8 kills and Sophia Anderson finished with 7 kills.

Vanessa Ramirez chipped in 16 digs and an ace.

La Salle will host Olympian of Chula Vista on Tuesday at 7.

The Eagles (30-7) defeated Westridge in four games.

“I’m really proud of the girls for playing well and together, and we got contributions from a lot of players,” La Salle coach Tiare Tuitama said. “We’re excited to play a very good team on Tuesday night.”
