From Staff Reports:

Pasadena coach Jett del Mundo has led a once dormant program to the CIF-SS semifinals last season.

As much as that alone caused a seismic change in expectations, it wasn’t good enough for the Bulldogs’ coach.

He decided they were going to play the toughest schedule possible and in the hopes of being tested and ready for not only the Pacific League marathon, but also what they hope will be an even deeper run in the CIF playoffs.

PHS Burroughs Tourney TrophyJust 10 games in, Pasadena is on a roll, including a 55-33 victory Saturday night over host Burroughs in the Indians Tournament finals.

As much as PHS enjoyed that victory, it was Friday’s night’s win over Village Christian that will certainly be the most remembered.

Village Christian had knocked this same Pasadena team off in the Burroughs Tournament championship last year and they also ended the Bulldogs season in the CIF semifinals.

But back to Saturday’s title game.

Mariah Cathcart led the way with 18 points, 14 rebounds and 5 steals.

Her numbers all week earned Cathcart a spot on the all-tournament first team.

Taurie Magee added 10 points, 20 rebounds and 5 steals.

Magee has been incredible in scoring and she owns the boards for the Bulldogs.

The senior took home the tournament MVP.

Sophomore Kamesha Moore chipped in with 13 points, 11 rebounds, 8 steals and 5 assists.

Kameria Pigee grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 2 points.

Emily Eter finished with 5 points, 4 steals and 4 rebounds.

The PHS defense held each Burroughs player to single digits in scoring.

Pasadena (8-2) earned victories over Mayfair, St. Joseph, Village Christian and Burroughs en route to the tournament championship.

And they did so by a margin of 251-179.
