Every high school football player dreams of winning a CIF championship.

It signifies the highest accomplishment in their sport.

And while that is great for a resume and a validation of your hard work and talent on the field, there is one thing that even surpasses that in the long run.

A student-athlete’s grades affect their lives far longer than anything they accomplish on a field.

The National Football Foundation honored players throughout the San Gabriel Valley for their success in the classroom, including 10 from the Pasadena area.

The awards were handed out Tuesday at the Pasadena Civic Center.

Among those honored were Maranatha’s Kwon Peterson and Summer Ortland, Muir’s Jonathan Stephens and Seth Reece, Pasadena’s Jalen Jolley and Ethan Nishikawa, Poly’s Cameron McFarlane and Sean Tibay, St. Francis’ Patrick Gibbons and La Salle’s Daniel Cina.
