Flintridge Prep was so close to knocking their rivals out of first place in the Prep League standings on Friday night.
Both Mayfield and Poly had two league losses heading into the final two matches of the season for the Panthers and the Cubs have just one remaining next Tuesday at Westridge.
And while Poly swept Flintridge Prep on August 24, this match was completely different.
In the end, however, Poly earned the 27-29, 25-14, 19-25, 25-18 and 15-10 victory to the dismay of both the Rebels’ and Cubs’ programs.
Ella Mao (18 kills) and Kate Salembier (16) combined for 34 kills and 20 digs for Poly.
Zoey Mao had 11 kills, 5 blocks, 8 digs and 6 aces for the Panthers.
Courtney Johnson led Prep with 15 kills.
Jada Gritton and Libby Penn both contributed 11 kills apiece for the Rebels.
Ellen Chang added 29 digs and Ani Bernardi finished with 46 assists.
Poly will host Providence on Monday at 3:45 in their regular season finale.
Prep will host Chadwick on Tuesday at 5:30 in the final match of 2018.
The Dolphins are coming off victories over both Mayfield and Poly to throw some drama into the final two weeks of the Prep League title chase.
