With a convincing 14-4 victory over Valley Christian, the Lady Minutemen secured their 6th undefeated league season and 6th Olympic League championship in 7 years. They are 60-2 in league in the last 7 seasons.

Today also marked the setting of two Olympic League records. In singles, Madison Kane registered her 9th consecutive “triple bagel” in league, becoming the first player to win all 27 possible sets in league play by the score of 6-0. The previous record was 24 sets by Christie Wan of Whittier Christian, a CIF Individuals Singles champion and current #1 singles player at Columbia. Wan still holds the league record for consecutive “bagels” in a career, with 48 straight, a record that could also fall next season in Kane’s senior year.

In doubles, Michael Wilkins became the first Olympic League doubles player to go undefeated for two consecutive seasons, with her and partner, Aria Haver-Hill, sweeping again today (6-4, 6-4, 6-3), finishing the season, 26-0, giving Wilkins a 53-0 mark over two seasons.

#2 doubles, Georgia Wilder/Amanda Yee played their most complete match of the season (6-0, 6-3, 6-3), playing focused tennis for all three rounds. #3 Rose Zhang/Shuhan Yang won 1 of 3 (6-4), narrowly losing two hard fought sets (3-6, 4-6). They are on the cusp and could be a sleeper in the league tourney next week.

#2 singles, Malena Smith, playing with injury, saw her league-unbeaten streak come to an end at the hands of VC’s #1, Kailane Kane, 3-6, a player she had never lost to before in 3 seasons. Kane’s strategy of moving Smith around the court proved too much for Smith to handle. Smith won her other two sets, 6-0, 6-0. #3 singles, Stella Wang, also fell at the hands of Kane, 4-6, her first loss in three sets to Kane.

The regular season ends for the Lady Minutemen tomorrow against the mighty Mayfield Cubs at Pasadena High School at 3 p.m. Maranatha has only defeated the Cubs once in the last 5 meetings (2014).
