Mayfield battled throughout their Prep League schedule and finished in third place.

The Cubs’ 4-4 record in league wasn’t indicative of how competitive they were.

In fact, they dropped a pair of tiebreaker matches to second-place Chadwick, and both times, it was by 2 points.

But the grind may have served them well.

Mayfield entered the playoffs as a wild card competitor in the CIF-SS Division 3 bracket.

The Cubs, thanks to an 11-7 victory over Fullerton on Wednesday, has advanced to the full bracket.

Mayfield will take a 62-mile bus ride to Rio Mesa today (Wednesday) for their 2 p.m. match.

The Spartans (13-4-2) went 11-0 in their Pacific View League matches.

Back to Wednesday’s victory for Mayfield.

Lauren Panajotovic went 3-0 and did so by scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-0.

Sofia Mireles went 2-1 at No. 2 in singles.

Alexa Saigh and her partner, Rebecca Leiva, earned the Cubs three victories as well.

Playing at No. 2 doubles, Leiva/Saign won by scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-0.
