Stans was grateful to each girl who competed today (Lily Brogdon, Michelle Cheng, Solunna Nwankwo, Sammi Kennedy, Saigh, Leiva, both Kingstons, Mireles and Panajotovic.

She also wanted to mention her gratitude to injured players Julianna Bayramyan, Natalia Rodriguez and Merivelle Hannah for their contributions throughout the 2018 season.

Mayfield earned today’s showdown thanks to an 11-7 wild-card victory on Tuesday against Fullerton.

Quotable:

Mayfield coach Silvana Stans: “Rio Mesa is a strong team across the board, especially in doubles, and their No. 1 singles player (Singh). It took us a while to get used to the windy conditions in Oxnard, but our girls fought as hard as they could. They felt the outcome could have been different if we played them on our court, but credit goes to Rio Mesa for playing well. Lauren (Panajotovic) and Sofia (Mireles), our No. 1 and No. 2 singles players we able to close well on their wins. Six other matches were close, which included a couple of great comebacks. I am very proud and thankful for each member of this program for giving me and their teammates everything they had all season.”

Records: Mayfield (8-7); Rio Mesa (14-4-2)
