There wasn’t any drama on Monday, as the 2018-19 girls basketball season got underway in the Maranatha Tournament.

Glendora, El Rancho, Alemany & Crescenta Valley won their respective games by a combined margin of 270-126, and the closest of the four was a 21-point loss by Maranatha to El Rancho.

The bracket play begins today (Tuesday) at Maranatha High School.

El Rancho 67, Maranatha 46:

Donteylor Maxwell had an enormous first game of the 2018-19 girls basketball season.

The El Rancho senior scored a game-best 37 points, but there was more to it than just her scoring output.

Maxwell did it on 16-of-24 shooting, including a 5-of-8 from behind the 3-point arc, and she tallied 13 rebounds and 6 steals.

Jaylene Oviedo added 21 points for the Dons.

Merci Turner led Maranatha with 15 points, and made 7 of her 14 shots from the field.

Patil Yaacoubian added 12 points and 4 steals, but she shot 5-of-22 on Monday, which included a pair of 3-point baskets.

Glendora 74, CAMS 21:

Glendora destroyed CAMS in their season opener on Monday.

The reigning CIF-SS Division 2A champions defeated the Rebels 74-21, at the Maranatha Tournament.

GHS took a 43-17 lead into the break and then shut out CAMS in the third quarter.

Kennedy Pucci led the way offensively for the Tartans.

Pucci had a game-high 16 points.

Jorday Holmes finished with 14 points and Leah Hudson added 12 points.
