Posting the fourth highest points total in school history, the Pasadena City College women’s basketball team won by a landslide over College of the Desert, 108-41, to open the PCC President’s Roundball Classic Thursday day night. The 8-team tourney continues Friday-Saturday, Nov. 11-12 at Hutto-Patterson Gymnasium.

The Lancers (3-0) face Los Angeles Southwest, coached by former assistant La’Nette Dillard, in the championship semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday. Long Beach City and College of the Sequoais face off in the other semifinal at 5 p.m. In the consolation semis, Pierce plays West Los Angeles at 1 p.m. and Imperial Valley and Desert play at 3 p.m.

PCC led 25-15 after one quarter, 52-25 by halftime and 79-31 at the end of three periods. It was the 17th time that Lancers head coach Joe Peron (in his 21st season) had his team reach the 100-point mark and first since Nov. 14, 2013 in a 104-34 win over West Los Angeles. PCC has a high of 114 points scored against Los Angeles City in 2008, 111 against East Los Angeles (2009) and 110 v. ELAC in 2008.

Against COD (0-3), six of the eight players who were dressed for the game scored in double figures, led by guard Jelissa Puckett with 20 points (9-for-14 from the field) and nine rebounds. Guard Bridget Phu added 19 points (8-for-11 shooting) while guard Jolene Robinson totaled 16 points (7-for-11) with four assists. Forward Ilianna Blanc tallied 15 points (7-for-8 from the free throw line) and center Alisa Shinn came off the bench to score 14 points, grab 14 rebounds and dish out four assists. Another reserve center, Raquel Jones, added 12 points with five rebounds.

Starting center Kailyn Gideon contributed five points and 12 rebounds while backup forward Kandace Payne had seven points and five rebounds.

The Lancers shot 57 percent from the floor (45 of 79 attempts) and outrebounded Desert, 61-20.

Desert was led by Lexie Jackson with 18 points. In other first round games, Sequoias beat Pierce, 89-32, Long Beach downed West LA, 48-40, and LA Southwest defeated Imperial Valley, 49-33.
