Pasadena City College football team defensive tackle Daeqwan Bailey was chosen All-California, Region IV First Team Defense. Bailey was the lone Lancer named to the All-State teams by the coach’s association.

Bailey, a 6-foot-3, 295-pound freshman from Sanderson High (North Carolina), was PCC’s team MVP as he led the squad in overall tackles with 61, becoming the first Lancers lineman to ever lead his team in tackles since the statistic was officially kept starting in 1993.

He made a team-high five sacks, 15.5 tackles overall behind the line of scrimmage, blocked three kicks and broke up three passes. He was a 3-time SCFA Defensive Player of the Week award winner.

“Daeqwan is a supreme talent, a player who might have been the best in the Metro League this past season,” said PCC head coach Tom Maher. “I don’t think people understand how difficult it is in today’s game for linemen to be high tackle performers. His athleticism helped make him a force. We are really glad to have him back for one more season in 2017.”

Bailey is the first All-State Lancer since Dale Pierson, a defensive end, was a member of the 2013 team. Pierson went on to become an All-Big 12 Second Team performer at Iowa State University.
