Grade: Freshman
Sport: Soccer
Position: Forward

Accomplishments: O’Reilly scored her fourth goal of the season 12 minutes into the second half of the Cubs’ Prep League showdown with Poly at Occidental College. A single goal might not sound unusual or special, but it was. The freshman scored to give Mayfield its first victory over Poly in 15 years. The win moved Mayfield up into a tie for second place, and in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Mayfield Coach Calum Torrie: “Daria Young collected a pass and ended up the line toward the Poly goal. She cut inside and passed to Nadia. Nadia still had a bit to do, but she beat her defense, and then coolly slotted by the on-rushing goalkeeper from an acute angle, and from about 12 yards (out). The goal was huge for us this season, as it propelled us into a 4-way tie for second place. It was also a huge weight lifted after 15 years of ties, large defeats and close-fought losses. The messages coming in have been unbelievable. I have been there for all 15 years of the hurt.”
