From Staff Reports

Kira O’Donnell and the Westridge girls water polo program had to wait 66 days for a shot at redemption.

Way back on Dec. 5, Poly earned a 9-8 victory, and the Panthers have stood atop the Prep League standings ever since.

Westridge hasn’t lost a league match since, including Monday night’s enormous, 15-10 victory, at Pasadena City College.

The Tigers win all but assures a co-league championship.

Kira O’Donnell led all scorers with 8 goals for Westridge (19-7 overall, 11-1 in league)

Georgia Bogle and Ava Whist had 2 goals apiece for the Tigers.

Serena Lewin blocked 6 shots in goal for Westridge.

“Westridge played great defense to secure a big win for our program,” Westridge coach Robert Echeverria said.

Freshman Talie Wilmans led Poly with 5 goals, Colleen Woo had 2 goals, while Natalie Clark, Megan Kelleher and Lucy Harvey each scored once for the Panthers.

Kate McInerny stopped 4 shots in goal for Poly.

“Westridge played a very strong game against us, converting on a lot of outside shots that were to the corners and nearly impossible to defend,” Poly coach Ryan Katsuyama said. “We didn’t help our cause much by missing 14 shots from the perimeter (either hitting the post or going wide/over the cage). We hope to rebound on Wednesday when we host Mayfield. If we win that game, Poly and Westridge will be tied for 1st in league. If we lose, Westridge will be outright champions and Poly will be 2nd.”

2/8: La Salle at Chadwick at 3:30
2/8: Westridge at Milken at 3:30
