It goes without saying that something certainly has to give when Flintridge Prep hosts No. 2 seed South Torrance at 3 p.m. today (Tuesday) in the CIF-SS Division 3 girls soccer semifinals.

Prep (22-3-3) is on an 8-game win streak and outscored Paramount, San Marcos and Oak Hills, 12-0, in the postseason.

South Torrance (17-1-2) is on a 12-game win streak, and defeated Atascadero, Arcadia and Glendora in the playoffs by a combined score of 8-0.

The Spartans lone loss of the season came on Dec. 14, when Mira Costa defeated South Torrance, 1-0.

Prep hasn’t even given up a goal since Dec. 30., when the Rebels fell, 1-0, to El Dorado in a holiday tournament.

The Rebels’ offensive output has been remarkable. They have outscored opponents 108-16 thus far.

Helen Schaefer and Julia Gonzalez both have 30 goals this year, while Mikaela Celeste has 21.

Prep’s big three has also combined for 65 assists.

Lindsey Uteda has surrendered just 12 goals in 25 games played for the Rebels.

The winner of this afternoon’s showdown will get either top-seeded Bishop Amat or Claremont this weekend.

CIF has yet to set a day or time for the championship game, other than to say it will be on either Friday or Saturday.
