Besides being a Pasadena City College Hall of Famer, Glen Aikin is a fan of Lancers swimming over the years. A member of two state champion teams in his time at PCC in 1977-78, Aikin set the 200-yard individual medley school record of 1:54.79. On an invite by current PCC head coach Terry Stoddard, Aikin came out to watch the 2017 Lancers at the CCCAA State Championships Thursday at East Los Angeles College.

In a touch of irony, 39 years after Aikin set his record, he watched poolside with Stoddard as Odent broke his school record at 1:54.47, just .32 of a second faster. Odent’s school record was second best in the consolation final.

“You can’t make up this stuff,” Stoddard said. “Here’s a legend of Pasadena City College swimming who has a record that no one can touch and then he is there in person to watch a swimmer break his mark. And it happens at the state meet. Wow.”

Aikin said, “It was really great to watch someone break my record. Records are meant to be broken and to watch it happen in front of me was especially exciting and gratifying.”

PCC has 21 team points after the first day of the state meet to make it into 14th place.
