The 2017 Pasadena City College men’s swim team often swam under the radar but in the All-American Top 16 Listings, the Lancers proved their mettle among the nation’s best community college athletes. Led by Sydney Odent’s four events, PCC totaled 11 All-American swims.

Odent, a freshman, achieved individual All-American status in the 1,650-yard freestyle, third in the U.S. at 16:10.37, the 400 individual medley (seventh, 4:05.77), the 200 IM (12th, 1:54.47) and the 200 breaststroke (14th, 2:08.41).

Double state champion and freshman Samuel Jo scored three All-Americans with a second in the 100 backstroke (50.20, state title), fourth in the 200 backstroke (1:49.79, state title), and 16th in the 200 freestyle (1:42.07). Freshman Narek Yeghikyan made All-American cut in the 1,650 freestyle (16th, 17:04.29).

PCC also made the mark in three relays, including 12th in the 800 freestyle relay (7:08.58) behind the strokes of Jo, Odent, Yeghikyan and freshman Jayson Wilia. The squad of Jo, Odent, Wilia and sophomore Zachary Loomer were twice All-American with a 13th in the 200 medley relay (1:36.58) and a 13th in the 400 medley relay (3:43.27).

The Lancers took ninth place as a team at the CCCAA State Championships. PCC Aquatics head coach Terry Stoddard guided 18 All-American swims overall with his additional guidance as coach of the women’s team.
