The Caltech volleyball team has unveiled its schedule for the 2017 season, which will consist of 13 home matches, including two tri-matches.

Schedule

The Beavers open the season at home for the first time since 2011, with West Coast Baptist College visiting Pasadena on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. Caltech avenged last year’s season-opening defeat in Lancaster with a 3-0 victory to cap the 2016 season.

Head Coach Tom Gardner’s squad hits the road for its annual doubleheader on Sept. 9 at the University of Antelope Valley, against whom the Beavers split last year to pick up their first away win in 13 years. Caltech then takes on a trio of National Christian College Athletic Association programs, beginning with a day trip to San Diego to face first-year Saint Katherine College on Sept. 12. The Beavers then host Providence Christian College on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. and heads to Life Pacific College on Sept. 15, both of which have gone 2-0 against Caltech over the last two seasons.

Conference play begins with a home match against NCAA qualifier Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. The SCIAC ledger continues with Chapman University hitting the road on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m., followed by a Sept. 23 doubleheader at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and NCAA participant University of La Verne. Caltech came within one point of winning its first SCIAC set in a decade against the Panthers last year before succumbing in extras, 28-26.

The Beavers alternate home and away matches over the next week, hosting Occidental College on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. and defending SCIAC champions Cal Lutheran University on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. while playing at Whittier College (Sept. 29) and the University of Redlands (Oct. 3). Caltech notched its most points in a SCIAC match (54) in four years against the Poets last September.

A non-conference tri-match breaks up the schedule as Caltech hosts Mills College and Saint Katherine on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Beavers then begin the second round of SCIAC play at home against CMS on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. with La Verne traveling to Pasadena the next day at 2 p.m. The Beavers will host Pomona-Pitzer on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m., Whittier on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. and Redlands on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. while heading to Chapman (Oct. 17), Oxy (Oct. 21) and Cal Lu (Oct. 27). The Redlands match will be part of a tri-match including Life Pacific, whom Caltech will face at 3 p.m.

Caltech closes out the regular season with its annual final game against West Coast Baptist, which will be played in Lancaster. The SCIAC Postseason Tournament is set for Thursday and Saturday, Nov. 2 and 4.
