To say Tuesday’s 5-set Prep League loss to rival Poly was a ‘disappointment’ would be an understatement.
Fast forward 48 hours, and Mayfield found itself down 2 sets to 1 to visiting Chadwick in another Prep League contest.
This time, though, the Cubs were on the fun side of a rally.
Mayfield defeated the Dolphins, 21-25, 25-19, 17-25, 25-12 and 15-12.
Maddie Reed and Hayley Eaves had 14 kills apiece and Eaves also had 5 digs.
Annie Evans added 9 kills and 9 digs.
Aoife Chow had 14 digs and 3 aces, and Maeve Davitt also contributed 14 digs.
Mayfield won’t play again until next Thursday when they travel to Rio Hondo Prep.
Quotable:
Mayfield coach Cami Martin: “I’m proud of the way my girls were able to recover so quickly and bounce back after an exhaustingly hard fought match against Poly on Tuesday. Although we got off to a slow start tonight and then struggled with our consistency a bit throughout the match, we were able to dig deep and execute when it really counted. It was a roller coaster but we battled in order to come back from being down 2-1 early in the match and take it in 5!”
