From Staff Reports

Last year, Tiare Tuitama’s girls volleyball program at La Salle had a lot of hype among area fans and the media (rankings).

The Lancers went out in the second round of the CIF playoffs to the surprise and disappointment of many, including Tuitama.

The 2017 season has started and without nearly as much fanfare, but this program has now won all four of its matches via sweep.

And that included a ranked Sierra Canyon team that previously swept Mayfield, Viewpoint and Campbell Hall before traveling to Pasadena to take on the Lancers.

Claire Forrest led the La Salle offense with 9 kills, 2 aces and a block.

La Salle earned a 25-20, 25-23 and 25-22 sweep of a tough Trailblazers team.

Sofia Sanchez added 5 kills and 3 blocks.

Tori Ashkinos chipped in with 16 assists and 11 digs.

Vanessa Ramirez finished with 12 digs and an ace.

La Salle won’t have too much time to celebrate, because they’ll host rival Flintridge Sacred Heart tonight (Friday) at 6:30.

Quotable:

La Salle coach Tiare Tuitama: “I am very proud of the team and how we competed tonight. Our practices leading up to this game were tough and strategic. Sierra Canyon is a very good school, and has some amazing athletes. Our goal is to continue to improve each week. We still have a lot of room to grow as a team. We are looking forward to playing Flintridge Sacred Heart tomorrow.”

La Salle senior Sofia Sanchez: “Our hard work and practice truly paid off today against a great team. Go Lancers!”
