The 2017 girls volleyball season is going to be a roller coaster for first-year coach Sang Lee.

One year after the Eagles won just 3 games all year, Marshall has already won 5 this season.

And while his patience over his program’s growing pains will be tested, the good news for Marshall is Lee is ready and willing to take his time and build the program from the ground up.

The loss on Friday was just another reminder that each win should be celebrated, considering where this program is coming from.

South El Monte defeated Marshall in the Mission Valley League opener by scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-19 on Friday.

Samantha James continues to lead the way with 10 kills and 7 digs.

Aileen Lopez had 11 assists and Allison Moore added 5 kills and 3 blocks for the Eagles.

Marshall is now 5-5 overall, and 0-1 in Mission League play.

The Eagles will travel to El Monte on Wednesday at 3:15 as league action continues.

Quotable:

Marshall coach Sang Lee: “We had no magic today. We were just really off and looked sluggish, but that’s not to take away from South El Monte. They came ready to play and had a strong defensive game. We will have to go back to the drawing board and figure some things out. Sometimes, you wont be as sharp as you would like and I think we experienced that today.”
