Chloe Twitchell scored the natural hat trick, three consecutive goals by a player without interruption by an opponent’s goal, as the Pasadena City College women’s soccer team won its fifth straight game, 4-1, at Glendale College Tuesday night. The win streak matches that of the 2001 Lancers team.
PCC (5-0 overall) won for the second time against the Vaqueros this season as Twitchell picked up her third game-winning goal. She leads the Lancers with five goals overall. Her 3-goal game marks the sixth straight year that a PCC player has performed the feat, and remarkably the third that was a natural hat trick. The last one of that nature was scored by Ani Hemelians against Compton College on Sept. 30, 2014. Cassandra Saavedra also hit the natural against Cerritos in 2012.
Twitchell, a sophomore, scored in the 45th, 55th and 72nd minutes (see photo collage). Makena Sierra scored PCC’s first goal on an assist by Emily Matthiesen with seven minutes left in the first half. Glendale (0-5) broke the shutout in the 88th minute on a penalty kick goal by Mirian Salguero. Pasadena rifled 13 of its 17 shots in the opening half. Matthiesen picked up two assists overall to give her a team-leading four in five games.
PCC is one of just six teams left in the state with perfect records. The others are fellow South Coast Conference North Division foe Chaffey, Folsom Lake, Fresno City, College of the Canyons, and Southwestern.
On Tuesday, Sept. 19, Coach Reggie Rivas’ Lancers will play at NorCal region Cerro Coso College in a 4 p.m. game.
