From STAFF REPORTS
There are times a program in rebuilding mode is going to be overmatched.
Such was the case for Marshall on Wednesday.
In a battle of ‘Eagles,’ it was the program from Gabrielino that was soaring.
The defending Mission Valley League champs looked and played the part.
Gabrielino swept Marshall by scores of 25-18, 25-10 and 25-8.
Samanatha James finished with 7 digs and 9 kills.
Aileen Lopez added 13 assists, and Risejah Velasco had 5 kills and 5 digs.
Marshall (5-7, 0-3) will travel to Rosemead on Friday in another league showdown.
Quotable:
Marshall coach Sang Lee: “Sometimes, the score doesn’t reflect what happened in the match, but today is an example of the score telling the exact story of the game. We started off strong and played some solid volleyball, but in the last two sets we couldn’t match the intensity of the first set. We have to improve our consistency throughout an entire match and not be satisfied with just being competitive in spurts. I was pleased with the fact that we only had three missed serves in three sets though. And it goes without saying that Gabrielino is the top dog in the league.”
Mission Valley League Standings:
Gabrielino (10-3 overall, 3-0 in league)
South El Monte (5-3, 3-0)
El Monte (3-2, 1-0)
Rosemead (9-1, 2-1)
Arroyo (0-9, 0-2)
Marshall (5-7, 0-3)
Mountain View (1-9, 0-3)
