The year 2017 will go down as the best start in Pasadena City College women’s soccer history following the Lancers’ 5-0 blanking of host Cerro Coso College on Tuesday. PCC is undefeated and untied at 6-0 and is just one of four teams in the state that don’t have a loss or tie.
Coach Reggie Rivas’ Lancers already doubled last year’s entire win total. At Cerro Coso, Chloe Twitchell, Emily Matthiesen and Thamara Peterson each recorded a goal and an assist. Stephanie Esparza and Makena Sierra also scored goals. Peterson scored in the 12th minute and Esparza followed with an unassisted goal four minutes later to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
Backup goalie Yulissa Macias made five saves for the shutout.
The Lancers have outscored their opponents this season, 17-3. Twitchell, the team’s leading scorer with six goals, has scored in each of the last three victories.
On Friday, Sept. 22, PCC hosts Antelope Valley College, currently 5-2 overall, in a 4 p.m. game at Robinson Stadium.
