With ‘Week Four’ of the 2017 football season in the books, St. Francis is the last area program to remain undefeated.
The Golden Knights started slow and admittedly didn’t have a great week of practice, but they have too many skilled players and are too balanced to not overcome even their own complacency at times.
Darius Perrantes was taken out of the game early when he experienced some discomfort.
Greg Dulcich came in from wide receiver to take over the quarterback duties and the senior captain threw TD passes to Blake Howard (39 yards) and a 13-yard score to Isaac Cordova.
Andrew Monarrez caught a 39-yard TD from Perrantes.
Elijah Washington finally got a significant number of carries and went for 102 yards and two TD’s.
Kevin Armstead picked off two passes, including a 60-yard Pick-6 to end the first half at Saugus.
Maranatha headed to Brentwood on Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 record, but the Eagles just took it to the Minutemen from the beginning.
The Maranatha (4-1) offense never got going and it was the first time this season that quarterback Kwon Peterson didn’t toss a TD pass.
The Broady brothers, Sol (the quarterback) and Lucian (running back) didn’t just run wild Saturday, they broke more than a handfull of tackles with a second and third effort.
If the Minutemen had to lay an egg this season, perhaps a nonleague road game was the time to do it.
It seemed that Maranatha tried in earnest to establish the running game early and Peterson seemed to never find a rhythm.
Poly got a late-night, 33-6 victory at Rosamond, thanks to another balanced scoring attack for the Panthers.
The Panthers got two rushing TD’s from quarterback Graham Olson and another through the air, as the Polly quarterback hit Jackson Hayes on a 17-yard score.
Cameron McFarlane and Zane Behary also had TD’s for Poly (3-1-1)
The game was supposed to start at 8, but because of bus issues, Poly didn’t get to the field until 7:55.
They were only given 20 minutes to warm up and the game kicked off at 8:30.
Marshall fell behind quickly to Rosemead and fell, 54-6, but Isaiah Fry did have a Pick-6 for the Eagles.
Notre Dame Prep of Scottsdale, Arizona, got payback for last year’s meltdown in the desert.
Last season, La Salle fell behind 25-0 in Scottsdale, but rallied and earned a 28-25, triple-overtime victory.
This year, the Saints outscored the Lancers in each of the four quarters, and were never really challenged.
At the end of three quarters, NDP held an insurmountable 34-10 lead
La Salle (2-3) will lick their wounds during their bye week and will be back in action October 6, when they host Salesian in an Angelus League opening game.
Muir matched Arcadia blow by blow in the first 20 minutes of the first half.
But the Apaches scored four unanswered touchdowns starting with about three minutes to play in the first half, and the Mustangs never got within striking distance.
The game will be remembered most for the inordinate amount of penalties thrown, and in many cases, the calls were questionable at best.
Jalique Stephens scored two TD’s for Muir and Jonathan Stephens had the other.
Muir fell to 2-2 overall, and 0-1 in the Pacific League.
