From STAFF REPORTS

The sixth time was the charm for Marshall.

Sang Lee’s Eagles battled in their first five Mission Valley League games, but Marshall fell short in each of the five.

A couple days ago, the Eagles lost a crushing 5-set battle to last-place Arroyo.

But to their credit, Marshall bounced back and won a 5-setter.

Quotable:

Marshall coach Sang Lee: “It was a physically and emotionally taxing week for us. We played three matches in five days, two of which went to five sets. I could tell the girls were giving it their all, but their legs didn’t look under them at times.

I’m preaching the importance of closing matches by playing aggressively at the net. We can’t expect to win by relying on the other team’s mistakes. I thought Allison (Moore) really helped us out with her six blocks. Aileen (Lopez) played through some foot pain and still gave us her best match. Samantha (James) had a ton of kills for us, which we needed. I’m proud of the way the girls maintained their composure after losing the first set. I’m also proud of how hard they were working out there despite being tired.” – Sang Lee

We had an uncharacteristically high number of service errors (15 missed serves). It may have been related to fatigue, but we have to improve that. That’s just free points for the other team.”

Senior captain Aileen Lopez: “It really made me devastated because we worked so hard in the last game (against Arroyo). Losing our last game really made us hungry for a win. We worked better as a team and pushed really hard for this win. We put in so much effort and wanted it. I’m so proud of our girls.”
