Sophomore Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) continued her pace as one of Caltech Volleyball’s top options on the attack by converting on seven kills against visiting California Lutheran University on Satuday. Lauinger was particularly active on Saturday, accounting for 26 of her team’s 90 attacking opportunities. She also had the Beavers’ only solo block of the day.

Freshmen Krystyna Maruszko (Redondo Beach, Calif. / Marymount) and Allessandra Mondello (Kinnelon, N.J. / Villa Walsh Acad.) tied for the team lead by each adding eight digs. Maruszko, among the team’s primary setters led with 10 assists but has also been asked to attack more as of late. Maruszko and fellow freshman Christine Yu (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose) combined on one assisted block.

Caltech dropped the first two sets to a tough Cal Lutheran team (7-7, 3-3 SCIAC) but really came to life in the third set, at one point leading the Regals, 12-11. The Beavers’ final point of the match came on a Yu kill, assisted by sophomore Ellie Walker (Minneapolis, Minn. / Blake School) before eventually dropping the decisive set, 25-18.

Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers won’t have to wait long before returning to action on Saturday, Sept. 30 at home against California Lutheran University.
