Marshall coach Sang Lee said missed serves are his Eagles’ ‘Achilles heel.’

Well, they had 17 more on Friday in a four-set loss to visiting El Monte.

The Lions earned a 25-11, 18-25, 25-22, 25-17 Mission Valley League victory.

Marshall’s loss drops them to 7-11 overall and 1-7 in league.

Setter Aileen Lopez had 29 assists.

Samantha James added 16 kills, 10 digs, and 2 aces.

Middle blocker Allison Moore had 7 kills and 3 blocks, while Libero Claire Moats added 7 digs.

Marshall will travel to first-place Gabrielino next Friday at 3:15.

Quotable:

Marshall middle blocker Allison Moore: “Something clicked today with everybody. There was a sisterhood bond. It wasn’t there before and now it’s there. People are starting to trust each other on and off the court.”

Marshall setter Aileen Lopez: “The vibe was really good. Everyone was connecting and trusting each other on defense. We want to continue what we did today and win more games.”

Marshall coach Sang Lee: “We played scrappy defense today against a quality opponent. They were serving really tough, but we passed well enough to give our offense an opportunity to really swing hard at the net. If we continue this level of play and stay reactive on defense, we have a chance to surprise some people.”

Mission Valley League Standings:
Gabrielino (14-3 overall, 7-0 in league)
El Monte (6-8, 3-2)
Rosemead (11-3, 4-3)
South El Monte (6-6, 4-3)
Marshall (7-11, 1-7)
Arroyo (1-15, 1-5)
Mountain View (2-11, 0-5)
