The Caltech women’s volleyball team saw several contributors when the University of La Verne came to Braun Gymnasium for Saturday’s SCIAC match. The Leopards entered the contest 8-2 in conference play, good for second place in the SCIAC.

11 Beavers saw the floor over the course of the three set match. Freshman libero Allessandra Mondello (Kinnelon, N.J. / Villa Walsh Acad.) led defensively with 10 digs and fellow freshman Isabell Yang (Arcadia, Calif. / Arcadia) followed close behind with eight digs. Freshman outside hitter Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) had five kills to go with five digs and also assisted on one of two Caltech blocks. Freshman Christine Yu (Fremont, Calif. / Mission San Jose), sophomore Lauren Li (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire) and junior Sakthi Vetrival (Redmond, Wash. / Overlake School) accounted for the Beavers’ other three assisted blocks. The Beavers’ play improved throughout the match as they got a better feel for the visiting Leopards and scored more points with each ascending set.

Head Coach Tom Gardner and the Beavers will return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at Chapman University.
