From STAFF REPORTS

It wasn’t the way they’d have preferred senior night finished, but Marshall didn’t go down without a fight.

Rosemead held off a pesky Eagles team by scores of 25-8, 25-13, 16-25 and 25-20.

Aileen Lopez finished with 20 assists and a season-high 9 digs.

Samantha James added 17 kills and 5 digs.

Allison Moore pitched in 4 kills and 5 blocks and Risejah Velasco had a serve-receive passing rate of 2.83.

Marshall closes out their regular season with matches against Arroyo and Mountain View.

Quotable:

Marshall coach Sang Lee: “”It was Senior Night and we played all of our seniors tonight. It was a special night to celebrate our seniors who have given so much to this program. The stat line proves how invaluable they are to the team. It took us awhile to get warmed up, but we started playing some effective volleyball in the latter sets. Again, missed serves cost us. We had 14 missed serves to only 3 aces. That’s a terrible percentage considering we are not really doing anything fancy with our serves. Our defense has to improve if we plan on finishing the season with some wins. We have two matches left against teams we have already beaten this season. Our goal is to get to 10 wins, which would be a dramatic improvement over last season’s win total of 3.”

Marshall senior setter Aileen Lopez: “We want to get under 5 service errors in a match to finish the season and learn how to close out. It was a lot of fun that we played all the seniors tonight. It was a sad type-of-thing because it was our last home game. Our goal is to win our last games. We have to stay focused.”

Marshall junior outside hitter Risejah Velasco: “We have to work on closing out sets. The third set was very energetic, but the other sets were not so much. We also have to serve more consistently.”
