Some may have wondered after Poly’s ‘Week Zero’ loss at Temple City if this wasn’t going to be the kind of year most expected from the Panthers’ football program.
Week after week, though, Poly continues to prove that it was just one bad game, and the Panthers’ team over the last five weeks is more in line with who they really are.
Poly continued its torrid streak Thursday night when they crushed Trinity Classical, 54-6, out in Valencia.
Cameron McFarlane left his mark everywhere in the victory.
McFarlane scored TD’s on runs of 48, 32 and 2 yards.
He carried the ball just three times for 82 yards.
McFarlane wasn’t done there.
The senior had a sack and two fumble recoveries for TD’s and finished the night with five scores.
Ryan Clayton and Thomas McConnell paced the defense with 9 tackles apiece, and both had tackles-for-loss.
Jackson Hayes had 109 yards rushing on just six carries.
Jackson Treister added 61 yards on the game on just three carries, and that included a 40-yard TD.
Christian Henderson picked off a pass and brought it back 40 yards for the score.
Backup QB Trent Steele throws TD pass to Ben Bryson.
Zane Behary had 7 tackles (four for loss), two sacks and an interception.
Matt Queen picked off a pass and had five tackles before leaving the game.
James Olson added three tackles, including a sack.
Quotable:
Poly coach Chris Schmoke: “It was nice to get into league play with a win. We need to keep working hard to improve. It was a late night.”
Poly senior Cameron McFarlane: “This was one of my better games, but as a team we had so many players produce. Both Jackson’s (Hayes and Trester) ran the ball well, and the defense played really well. I was happy with seeing our young guys being able to rotate in and they were impressive. I would also like to see the ball spread around more. We have a lot of talented receivers and I’d like to see them get the ball more often.”
Prep League Standings:
Poly (6-1-1 overall, 1-0 in league)
Rio Hondo Prep (4-2)
Firebaugh (2-5)
Trinity Classical Academy (2-6, 0-1)
Poly’s Remaining Schedule:
October 27: Firebaugh vs Poly at South Pasadena High at 7
November 3: Rio Hondo Prep at Poly at 2:30
