Caltech goalkeepers freshman Joe Como (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Acad.) and sophomore Alex Lettenberger (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Glenbard West) combined for 12 saves in Saturday’s match against SCIAC foe Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
Como got the start and played the game’s first 62 minutes and stopped eight shots himself behind the young, athletic Caltech defense. Lettenberger relieved Como with 28 minutes to go and filled in admirably, saving all four shots he faced.
Sophomore forward Kevin Yu (Park Ridge, N.J. / Park Ridge) put the Beavers only two shots on target within one minute of one another. The first shot came 81 minutes in and the second shot came 53 seconds later following a Sagehens foul while recovering from a Caltech corner kick.
Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will play their remaining two games at home. The first game will be on Wednesday, Oct. 25 when they host SCIAC-rival Occidental College and will wrap 2017 when they take on Bethesda University Flames on Saturday, Oct. 28.
