Forty five days ago, Pasadena defeated visiting San Marino in five games.

Just so no one thought the home court advantage was the difference, the Bulldogs opened the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs at San Marino.

And the result was the same, it just took less time.

Pasadena earned its first CIF-SS playoff game since 2006, as the Bulldogs claimed a 25-18, 18-25, 25-17 and 25-22 victory in front of a sizeable and boisterous Titans gym.

Pasadena (15-9) will travel to Culver City on Tuesday night at 7 against the top-seeded Centaurs, who are 25-1.

Back to Saturday night, though.

Taurie Magee had a team-high 14 kills.

Divine Johnson added 8 kills.

Sophie Lindsay chipped in 27 assists and 4 kills.

Elise Valdez (22) and Lauren James (20) combined for 42 digs for PHS (15-9)

Jesse Demuth finished with 8 assists and 3 aces for the Bulldogs.

San Marino, the third-place team from the Rio Hondo League finished their season 18-12.

Quotable:

Pasadena coach Emily Fuentes: “It was definitely our passing (that won this match for us). When we were passing well, that’s when we got opportunities and we stayed up. I am pretty cool under pressure (about raising the bar at PHS). We need to clean up our passing.”

San Marino coach Hugo Ayala: “This time around, we had a different lineup and I don’t think the girls got used to the atmosphere. We normally don’t have this many people at our matches. (Pasadena) played well and did a good job tonight.”

PHS senior Taurie Magee: “I’m proud we got our serves in and we got our passes together. What we need to work on is our serve-receive, and then our blocking and our defense. We played our game. When we were close, it was our mistakes we made. We always tune out negativity, but we do feed off our crowd and appreciate them.”

PHS senior Sophie Lindsay: “We worked really well together as a team. We kept our intensity really high and never stopped. We were digging really well, but we need to work on our serve-receive.”

PHS junior Divine Johnson: “We were able to shake off mistakes well. I am most proud of our offense and we need to work on our serve-receive. We attacked every ball and played well offensively.”
