Two of the southern section’s boys basketball powers met up in the first round of the Damien Tournament on Tuesday night.

Pasadena flipped a 12-point halftime deficit with a 24-12 surge in the third quarter, and earned a 73-70, overtime victory over Corona Centennial in a first-round match up.

While it’s a given that Bryce Hamilton will almost always lead the way in scoring, it was Tavian Percy’s effort that was an x-factor in the Bulldogs winning Tuesday.

Hamilton got his 28 points on 12-of-29 shooting and 6 rebounds.

But Percy pouring in a season-high 28 and 5 rebounds was enormous.

Percy was on fire offensively, and made 10 of his 13 shots from the field.

Many, including Darius Brown II had serious doubts the senior point guard would take to the floor today.

Brown suffered an ankle sprain early in Friday’s Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas and he never came back.

DBII found the toughness to compete, and while he struggled shooting (1-of-7) on that tender ankle, he was able to dish out 8 rebounds and had 5 steals and 5 rebounds.

Omari Moore finished with 5 points and 4 rebounds.

The Bulldogs get back on the court today (Wednesday) afternoon at 4 to take on Santa Margarita.

Box Score:
Pasadena: 13-9-24-14-13-(73)
Centennial: 17-17-12-14-10-(70)

Records:
Pasadena (5-3); Centennial (6-5)
