Tony Brooks is as good a basketball coach as we have in Pasadena and the area.
But even he can’t coach against injuries, especially to his star players.
Darius Brown II, the area’s best point guard played sparingly, and Tavian Percy, a 6-foot-5 rebounding machine was in street clothes on Saturday afternoon at Damien.
To their credit, Rancho Christian was big and active on the boards, and it helped earn them a 73-50 victory over the Bulldogs.
Bryce Hamilton did his best to pick up the slack after DBII’s departure and Percy sitting on the bench.
The 6-foot-5 senior scored 33 points and had 7 boards.
Hamilton was 13 of 25 from the floor, and made 6 of his 11 free-throw attempts.
Darius Mason was the next leading scorer with 8 points, but that was on 4 of 14 shooting.
Mason grabbed 5 rebounds as well.
Omari Moore added 5 points and 7 rebounds.
PHS shot just 33-percent from the field on 20-of-60 shooting.
Pasadena will open Pacific League play Wednesday at Crescenta Valley and Bulldogs’ fans will be holding their collective breath in hoping that both DBII and Percy are ready to go at tip off.
