What a difference a point guard makes, especially this one.
The area’s best at that spot, Pasadena senior Darius Brown II, came back earlier than expected from injury and made all the difference in the world.
But so did Bryce Hamilton, Tavian Percy, Darius Mason, Omari Moore and the whole crew.
DBII was a last-minute addition to the game and he was huge.
He finished with a game-high 17 points, including five 3-point baskets, and did so on 6-of-10 shooting from the field and 5 of 8 from behind the 3-point arc.
Brown also game-highs with 8 assists, and 4 steals.
Perhaps his biggest compliment was PHS saw nine separate players score with the senior running the show.
Bryce Hamilton added 14 points and 5 rebounds.
Tavian Percy, who is too battling back from injury, scored 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in limited minutes.
Percy is a quality and bright kid on and off the court, and his length, scoring and rebounding prowess will pay big dividends down the stretch, and especially when he’s at 100 percent.
Omari Moore finished with 10 points and 2 rebounds.
As important as it was to see PHS have a balanced offense is the resurgence it seems of junior Darius Mason.
Mason has come to life this week as Pacific League started, and had another solid effort.
Mason finished with 6 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists.
Laz Morris and Roman Soloman had 4 points each.
And if you thought DBII was the only shooter in his family, you were wrong.
His little brother, sophomore, Davian Brown came off the bench and nailed a 3-point basket for PHS.
The Bulldogs shot 52% from the field on 25 of 48 shooting and hit 9 of 16 from behind the 3-point arc.
PHS needs to rest this weekend, because they have three Pacific League games to play next week.
The Bulldogs will host Burbank on Monday, and then travel to Hoover and Glendale, on Wednesday and Friday, respectively.
