La Salle coach Mike Lynch told us on Saturday night that his Lancers battled throughout their match up this evening with University High School of Irvine.

The Lancers and Trojans were taking part in the East LA College-Cathedral Showcase.

Darius Henderson continued to dominate with 30 points.

Kenneth Franklin added 24.

But what Lynch called ‘game over’ was their effort from the charity stripe.

La Salle made just 23 of 38 free-throw attempts and it was the difference.

Not to make excuses for the Lancers, but they had just competed in a Camino Real League game 24 hours prior and their legs just weren’t what they might have been on a day or more of rest.

If La Salle is to challenge for a Camino Real League championship, it will be this week.

The Lancers travel to Long Beach on Wednesday night to take on first-place St. Anthony.

And two nights later, they’ll go to La Puente to face second-place Bishop Amat.

Both games are slated for 7.

Records:
La Salle (13-8); University (14-6)
