From STAFF REPORTS

Pasadena’s last loss in Pacific League play came at the hands of Glendale last January 12th, with a final score of 49-45.

Since then, the Bulldogs have been the hottest team in the Pacific League, and winners of their last 6 games.

PHS was anxious to redeem themselves with the opportunity to take a hold of first place in the Pacific League with a win over Glendale, and on the same night Burroughs handed Crescenta Valley its second loss of league.

It was also a night where winning a game on the court came second to the importance Stroke Awareness for the school communities.

The importance of Stroke Awareness was evident as hundreds wore red ribbons to show support for the worthy cause taken on by both teams from Glendale and Pasadena. As a show of unity, both teams wore their away colors in this important league contest!

Pasadena wearing their road red uniforms battled Glendale, who wore their road black uniforms.

The Bulldogs came out ready but couldn’t match the energy of the Glendale team led by Jillian Yanai whose floor leadership and ball distribution kept the Bulldogs frustrated and out of rhythm. Jillian kept the Bulldogs on their heals with her game high 25 points.

PHS countered with their team-game principles and put their usual 3 players in double digits to go up against Glendale.

Kamesha Moore’s 18, Taurie Magee’s 12, and Mariah Cathcart’s 11 weren’t enough to push the Bulldogs over the top.

The Bulldogs sluggish start led to numerous turnovers and Pasadena played from behind for the better part of the first three quarters.

In the 4th quarter, things began to change as the Bulldogs defense started to create opportunities.

The Bulldogs finally threatened to take the lead down 1 point twice very late in the fourth quarter.

Again, lackluster energy and poor decision making led to uncharacteristic turnovers with uninspired post play and poor free-throw shooting for the Bulldogs!

The night would belong to Glendale, as the Bulldogs never did take control of the game.

It was a night of missed opportunities as Burroughs defeated Crescenta Valley; and with a win, the Bulldogs would have been sitting in sole possession of 1st place!

Instead, the 49-45 loss to Glendale keeps CV in 1st and a 3-way tie for 2nd between Glendale, Burroughs, and Pasadena.

Pasadena next faces Burroughs on Tuesday in another pivotal Pacific League contest.

While Glendale battles Arcadia and CV plays against Burbank.

All teams will finish Pacific League play with their final league games next Thursday, February 8th.

In tonight’s contest…

Kamesha Moore
18 pts, 10 reb,

Taurie Magee
12 pts, 17 reb

Mariah Cathcart
11 pts, 5 reb

Box Score:
PHS 10-10-9-16…45
