From STAFF REPORTS

All season, Hunter Woods has led the Muir offense, and it’s helped the Mustangs win more games than they have in nearly two decades (if not longer).

Woods was fourth in scoring for Muir in Wednesday’s 80-61 victory over visiting Saugus in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2A playoffs.

And as odd as it may sound, that’s a good thing.

The reason for it is simple.

If there are nights where the star senior is double or triple teamed or is just having a cold shooting night, the Mustangs need not panic, because they have so many plugs to fill in the holes.

Haleem Jenkins led Muir with 21 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

Simaine Stewart junior had 19 points, 3 assists, 3 steals and 2 rebounds.

Tiyon Martin added 18 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 5 steals.

Woods himself still did so many things Wednesday to ensure a victory by chipping in 11 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots.

Tasson Aubry finished with 9 points and 9 rebounds.

Neal Carter had 2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Muir will host La Serna (17-13) on Friday night at 7 in the second round of the 2018 postseason.
