For the second consecutive game to start the 2018 baseball season, La Salle got good pitching and earned an 8-inning victory.

This time, it was the reigning Pasadena Sports Now Pitcher of the Year Zane Lindeman who started on the hill, and the 6-foot-4 right-hander looked good.

Lindeman went 5 innings and allowed just an unearned run on 4 hits. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out two, but the senior walked off the mound trailing 1-0.

Landon Smith went a scoreless sixth for the Lancers.

In the top of the seventh inning, Lindeman reached base when he was hit by a pitch.

Brennan Mace singled and after an Everett Sayer bunt single. Ethan Patrick’s fielder’s choice drove in Lindeman to tie the game at 1-1.

In the next inning, James Barnard singled and scored on a Luke Heiberg double off the wall.

Heiberg then scored on Brennan Mace’s RBI single to give La Salle a 3-1 lead.

Senior Jeff Daley, for the second game in a row, did the rest.

Daley sat down all 6 batters he faced in the seventh and eighth innings to improve to 2-0.

Daley didn’t walk a batter and struck out one.

Henry Kavanaugh went 3 for 4, and Lindeman went 1 for 1 with a double, walked once and was hit by a pitch.

La Salle will host Mountain View on Saturday morning at 11, and it will take place at the Arcadia County Park.
