You know something big happened when the first paragraph of a story doesn’t mention someone with five hits.
But that was the case Saturday, as Matt Queen and Sean McTigue combined on a no-hitter in the second game of a doubleheader with Oxford Academy.
Queen went the first four innings and struck out six batters to earn the victory.
McTigue finished it off with three innings of hitless baseball, and he fanned four.
Offensively, Franco Alonso was a beast.
The junior went 5 for 5 with four runs scored and he drove in four more.
Alonso had two singles and three doubles.
Cameron McFarlane, Sean Tibay and Queen all homered for Poly.
Ty Evans had two hits and a pair of RBIs.
In all, the Panthers’ offense racked up 17 hits, and they had nine separate players that had at least one hit.
