On paper, PCC didn’t have much of a chance of beating Glendale in the first round of the CCCAA playoffs.

But thanks to Gordon Ingebritson’s complete-game, 3-2 victory on Friday at GCC, the Lancers need one win Saturday to advance to the second round.

Ingebritson allowed just two runs on seven hits to earn the victory.

He walked five and struck out three.

Glendale had two runners on base in the ninth inning, but Ingebritson got Jacob Gribbin to strike out on a slider to seal the deal.

PCC out-hit GCC, 10-7, and Glendale left 10 runners on base as compared to 5 for the Lancers.

Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, Tony Shue doubled, which allowed Jason Ajamian to tie the game at 1-1.

One batter later, Daniel Netz hit a sac fly to center field that scored Shue and the Lancers led 2-1.

PCC got one insurance run in the third inning, as Ryan Lewis singled home John Bicos and Ingebritson did the rest.

Jose Jimenez an Jason Ajamian had two hits apiece for the Lancers.

Netz finished 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Troy Viola and Jacob Gribbins had two hits apiece for GCC.

Dexter Wilkerson got the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits over his 3 1/3 innings on Friday.

Felix Rubi and Anthony Robles shut out the Lancers over the final 5 2/3 innings.

Nathan Garkow (6-5, 3.57 ERA) will be on the mound for PCC at 11 a.m. today (Saturday) against GCC ace Chris Davidson, who is 6-1 with a 2.50 ERA.

If Glendale wins game two, the Lancers and Vaqueros will meet for a third and deciding game 30 minutes after the completion of game two.

PCC will be the designated home team in the early game Saturday.

Quotable:

PCC coach Pat McGee: “Gordon was unbelievable. He really stepped up and competed and put us on his shoulders. I am so proud of him and what he did. He earned the right to pitch to his conclusion. It was great after persevering in the first inning, we fought in the second inning to take a lead. Playing over the last couple weeks in games that were like playoff games really helped us for this moment.”

PCC freshman Gordon Ingebritson: ” We kind of snuck in the playoffs, so all the pressure was on them. We have been playing in games over the last couple of weeks with a playoff-type atmosphere and it showed out there today. I tried to locate my fastball and moved it well and worked on letting my defense make plays behind me.”

PCC freshman Daniel Netz: “It felt pretty good today to help contribute in a big playoff win (especially against our crosstown rival Glendale who I don’t even know when the last time was that PCC beat them) after having such a lackluster season at the plate. At this point, I’ve completely pushed the past aside, because we have accomplished one of our goals to make it into playoffs, and all that matters now is doing everything I can to help the team win. Not to mention, being able to play behind the spectacular CG today by Gordon, who I used to play against in high school while he was at Village Christian.”
