From STAFF REPORTS
It’s not official yet, but the Muir baseball program is inching oh-so-close to a first trip to the postseason since the late 1980’s.
With two games left to play in the Pacific League’s regular season, the Mustangs have a one-game lead over both Pasadena (6-6 in league) and Burroughs (6-6) for third place.
Muir would need just a fourth-place finish to earn a CIF-SS playoff berth, so one win in their two game series with PHS or one Burbank victory over Burroughs would clinch the remarkable turnaround first-year coach Adonis Harrison had made in the program.
On Friday, Brian Love continued his amazing ascendance on the mound, going six scoreless innings in the 2-0 victory over visiting Burbank.
Love scattered four hits, walked two and struck out a pair of Bulldogs’ batters.
Emiliano Martinez got the save with a scoreless seventh inning.
Martinez didn’t allow a hit or walk and he struck out one.
Andrew De La Torre, who six nights ago earned a 3-2, eight-inning win over PHS was saddled with the loss.
De La Torre allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits.
The Burbank junior walked just one and struck out six, but was the tough-luck loser on Friday.
Muir got an RBI single from Valente Vera and an RBI single from Aryonis Harrison.
Aryonis, who has hit into tough luck all season broke out Friday.
The Muir junior went 3 for 3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored.
Tyquise Soloman singled and scored on an Aryonis Harrison base hit.
Matt Shaugabay doubled and accounted for two of the four Burbank hits on Friday.
Muir will host PHS on Tuesday and then on Friday, the Bulldogs and Mustangs will meet up at Pasadena High School.
